The Association of Parents of mentally Retared Children is working for mentally retarded adults. Association has built up residential complex named “ADHAR” on a 5 -acre plot in a beautiful rural setting at Thakurwadi, Mulgaon at a distance of 9 km. from Badlapur (C.R) station in Thane District of Maharashtra.

ADHAR is the first institute in India of its type where we are taking responsibility of lifelong care and protection of adult mentally retarded children.It works in a spirit of Trusteeship and managed by the Board of Trustees in which 9 out of 11 are parents. At present we have 180 M.R children (male and female) under our care. Adhar is providing them lifelong care, training and rehabilitation facilities with the help of psychologist, physio Therapist, Occupational Therapist, Medical Officers, Social workers, Special Teachers, Care takers and other Office Staff.

We believe that the growth of ADHAR to the present position was possible only through the personal interest ‘People’ have taken in it. We would like to nurture it for the holistic development of ADHAR. The building, dormitories, the Workshops, Special Care Unit cum Multipurpose Hall, the generator unit, the solar heater systems, telephone, computers and 180 precious lives in the campus and around 110 staff members who are dependent on ADHAR are all the outcome of big and small donors who contributed for the concept of care and rehabilitation of Mentally Retarded. We are grateful to each one of them for their spirit of Sharing for the welfare of the Mentally Retarded.

We have got the National Trust Registration. National Trust is form under Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Govt. of India to work in the field of Mental Retardation, Autism, and Cerebral Palsy and Multiple Disabilities.

WHY DO WE NEED FUNDS?
• Adhar does not get any Govt.Grant or Aid
• We give subsidy to parents around Rs.1000/- per month totaling to Rs.18 lacs resulting in accumulated deficit.
• Free ship and more concessions are given to more than 10 needy parents.
• Most of the parents are old and from middle class family background.
• Ever increasing development needs at the Project.
• Future plans to help more parents.

All donations received by us are exempted from Income tax under Section 80 (G). We have also obtained FCRA Registration (Foreign Contribution) from Ministry of Home Affairs Govt. of India.
